Resumen

Este trabajo reseña aspectos de la teoría de la unión aduanera que son relevantes para México ante el posible Acuerdo de Libre Comercio de América del Norte. Se discuten los siguientes temas: efectos de creación y desviación de comercio; efecto producción; efecto sobre términos de intercambio; arancel común externo; economías a escala; reducción unilateral de aranceles; empresas extranjeras en la formación de uniones aduaneras; y uniones aduaneras y desarrollo económico.
