Peer Review Process

All submissions to Estudios Económicos are initially screened by the Editor to check their suitability for potential publication. Submissions that do not fit with the subject matter of the journal, breach its code of ethics, do not make a significant contribution to the literature, lack originality, or clearly fail to meet minimum standards of quality are desk-rejected without sending the manuscript out for peer review.

All manuscripts that successfully pass this preliminary review enter a double-blind peer review process, which guarantees the anonymity of both the authors and the referees. Each manuscript is reviewed by a minimum of two expert referees. Additional reviews may be requested at the discretion of the Editor. Based on the results of this review process, a decision on publication is made. Manuscripts may be rejected, returned for revision, conditionally accepted, or accepted for publication.

In the case of manuscripts that are returned for revision, the authors are expected to send a revised version accompanied by a letter explaining how the comments of the referees have been addressed. The resubmitted manuscript may then be sent for a second round of peer review if required.

The final decision on the publication of all submissions rests with the Editor. Normally, the revision process will not take more than 16 weeks after the manuscript is received by the editorial office.
